Youth Ministry

Tonight, we'll continue in our series on The Kingdom of God that we started a few weeks ago (tonight is week 10).  The Kingdom of God was the topic and theme of camp this summer, but I wanted to continue it on into a series with the youth knowing that for one, reminding, reiteration, and repetition is important, but also because there was so much more that could've been said.  This isn't just a reiteration of all the points from camp, but more of an expanding on the things we heard.  A lot of foundational ground work was laid at camp, but my aim is both to move into application since we know that there is both eternal AND temporal significance to living in God's Kingdom, as well as to let this serve as a zoomed-out, whole-bible, whole-story, whole-picture theology for us to build from for everything we ever teach our students.  Being Kingdom-minded, Kingdom-oriented, and Kingdom-focused changes everything about the world around us.  Week 1 was "Kingdom of Creation."  Week 2 was "Kingdom of Creatures."  Week 3 was "Kingdom of Dominion." Week 4 was "Kingdom of Law."  Week 5 was "Kingdom of Self." Week 6 was "Kingdom of Covenant."  Week 7 was "Kingdom of Grace."  Week 8 was "Kingdom of Fulfillment."  Last week was "Kingdom of Redemption."  This week will be "Kingdom of Renewal."  My aim is for the kids to have a full-orbed understanding of the story-arch of the Bible and have a "birds-eye view," "forest for the trees" understanding of the inter-connectedness of all of redemptive history revealed in the Bible.  To have a Biblical theology of the one, true King and His Kingdom.  It's one thing to know, cite, and reference the various stories and accounts from the Bible.  It's another thing to put them together and see what God is doing and make sense out of the whole Bible.  There's a flow, aim, direction, and trajectory to the narrative, and I want them to see it, understand it, comprehend it, believe it, and live in light of it.  Hope to see your students!  Please get them here!

Xalt Youth is a weekly group for the middle and high school students of Forrester Community Church.  We believe that those in our church in the youth ages shouldn't be relegated to a separate entity or with an unnecessary division or segregation from the rest of the church body, but rather a vital part of it, and we strive to build that into both the parents as primary disciplers of those in the youth, as well as in the youth themselves so they grow in understanding their role(s) in the body of Christ in healthy ways as they mature in their faith.  We don't view Wednesday nights as an event for parents to drop their kids off for Patrick or any of the youth leaders to be the primary discipler of their children, but would rather come alongside the parents in our church to serve them in ways to promote healthy and ongoing discipleship in the home, and then let Wednesday nights serve as an additional (though focused, certainly), mid-week Bible study, encouragement, and fun for them.  And we certainly also encourage our youth to invite friends (what a great way for some to hear the Gospel who may otherwise not) to come, but our aim is to focus first on our youth, and then strive for ways to help serve those who may come whose families aren't covenanting members of our church.
